The paintings of Berlin artist Sylvia Seelmann have a powerful pull.
Between abstraction and figuration, they open up vast spaces for thought and experience: at their center are marsh landscapes with bright green duckweed, surrounded by trees, ferns, and shifting light. Bright primers give the works an inner radiance and draw viewers into contemplative pictorial spaces.

Reflections and color moods vary to the point of surrealism and reflect the duality of the relationship between humans and nature—sometimes the landscapes appear protective, contemplative, and idyllic to the viewer, sometimes mysterious and latently threatening.

Sylvia Seelmann, a native of North Rhine-Westphalia, studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and lives as a freelance artist in Berlin. She is a member of the BBK and the Verein Berliner Künstler (Association of Berlin Artists).
